Creating virtual greyhounds was a new challenge. With race variations numbering into the millions, pre rendered content wasn't practical. We decided to build the product in a real time games engine to allow variations to be calculated at run time. Motion capturing a dog was impractical due to the speeds involved. Instead our talented animators created run cycles with the help of slow motion footage shot on location. This allowed us to create the realistic movements of the dog and along with real time blending, gave each runner its own style of run, adding to the believability.
